Higher Pump Prices Ahead of Easter Break Amid Global Conflict
The rising global tensions in the Middle East have led to a surge in petrol prices across the UK, with motorists expecting to pay as much as 150p per liter by the time they head away for Easter. However, Asda’s CEO and former Unilever executive Leo Peltier has dismissed allegations that his company is profiteering off the crisis, stating that the supermarket is doing its best to keep prices stable despite rising fuel costs. “We understand that petrol prices are a significant concern for many of our customers, particularly as we approach Easter,” Peltier said in a statement. “However, Asda has been working hard to maintain competitive pricing on our food products and everyday essentials, while also absorbing the increasing cost of fuel.” The RAC’s chief engineer, Neil Williams, warned that with the UK’s fuel prices set to hit 150p per liter by Easter, drivers could face a significant increase in their annual expenses. “With the current petrol prices being over 30% higher than last year, it’s a wake-up call for drivers,” Williams said. Asda has promised to pass on any fuel-related cost increases to customers where possible, while also exploring ways to reduce its own energy costs and avoid passing them on.
