New Banknote Designs Leave History Behind for Nature-Lover Approach
The Reserve Bank of India has decided to introduce a new design for its banknotes, swapping historic figures for wildlife images in an effort to curb counterfeiting. According to the central bank, nature-based designs were the most favored theme among the public during the design process. The new notes will feature vibrant and colorful depictions of various Indian species such as peacocks, parrots, and elephants. The Reserve Bank of India has stated that the primary motivation behind this decision was to create a more secure and durable banknote. By incorporating nature-based designs, the central bank aims to make the notes more difficult to replicate using counterfeiting techniques. Additionally, wildlife images are expected to appeal to younger generations and promote environmental awareness. The Reserve Bank of India has also emphasized its commitment to promoting conservation efforts through this initiative. The new designs will be rolled out across the country in phases, with the first series of 100-rupee notes featuring a peacock expected to hit circulation soon.
