Ukraine Strikes Yandex Data Centre for Third Time
Yandex, Russia’s leading search engine provider and largest tech company, has faced a series of cyberattacks from Ukrainian hackers in recent days. The attacks have resulted in the destruction of three data centres, with the latest strike targeting the company’s Moscow-based data centre. The third attack, which occurred on Tuesday, was reportedly carried out by a group of Ukrainian hackers using a combination of malware and phishing techniques to gain access to Yandex’s systems. The attackers then exploited vulnerabilities in the network to spread further, causing significant damage to the data centre. Yandex has since suspended its operations and taken steps to secure its remaining data centres to prevent future attacks. The company has also issued a statement condemning the attacks as “unacceptable” and vowing to take all necessary measures to protect its users’ data. The attacks on Yandex have sparked concerns among Russian tech companies, with many fearing that Ukraine’s cyber warfare capabilities are being increasingly used to target domestic rivals. As tensions between Russia and Ukraine continue to escalate, it remains to be seen how this series of attacks will impact the wider tech industry in Eastern Europe.
