Aleppo Residents Return Home After Intense Fighting
Residents of a Kurdish neighborhood in Aleppo, Syria’s second-largest city, have returned home after days of deadly clashes between Syrian government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The fighting, which began on Tuesday, resulted in significant damage to the area, with blackened walls, burned-out vehicles, and debris-strewn streets reported.
According to Syrian authorities, the battles killed dozens of people and displaced approximately 155,000 individuals. The clashes were the most intense since December 2024, when then-President Bashar al-Assad’s regime fell.
On Sunday, the government announced that it had regained full control over two areas in question, following an agreement with the SDF to transfer fighters from the districts to Kurdish autonomous regions in Syria’s northeast. The United Nations confirmed that it was working to send additional convoys to the affected neighborhoods, providing food, fuel, blankets, and other essential supplies.
The exact details of the fighting and its aftermath are still being reported by Syrian authorities. Further information on the situation is expected as the situation continues to unfold.
