US Representative Eric Swalwell Faces Calls for Resignation Amid Allegations
Reports of alleged sexual assault against US Congressman Eric Swalwell have sparked calls for his resignation and expulsion from the United States Congress. The allegations, detailed in media reports by CNN and the San Francisco Chronicle, involve multiple women who claim to have experienced misconduct.
Swalwell has denied the allegations as “absolutely false” and has not indicated any plans to withdraw from the California gubernatorial race. However, several influential Democratic Party lawmakers have called for him to drop out of the race and resign from Congress. Congressman Ro Khanna stated that investigations into the allegations by law enforcement and the US House of Representatives are necessary.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office confirmed on Saturday that it is investigating the allegations. Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna has announced plans to submit a motion to begin the process of expelling Swalwell from Congress. Some Democrats in Congress have expressed support for this move, while others have stated that it is not a partisan issue and should be handled by law enforcement.
Other lawmakers facing similar allegations, including Representative Tony Gonzales, are also being called upon to resign or face expulsion. Republican Representatives Byron Donalds has stated that both Swalwell and Gonzales should be removed from Congress. The situation remains under investigation, with no further updates available at this time.
