Amazons AWS Bahrain Region Experiences Disruption Due to Drone Activity

Amazon Web Services (AWS) region in Bahrain was affected by a disruption due to drone activity, according to an Amazon spokesperson. This marks the second time in a month that AWS operations have been impacted by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The disruption occurred amid heightened tensions between Iran and the US, with Iranian officials threatening to target US offices and infrastructure run by top US companies. In response, Amazon is helping to migrate customers to alternate AWS regions while it recovers from the incident.
AWS is a critical component of many well-known websites and government operations, as well as Amazon’s main driver of profits. The company had previously reported that facilities in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates lost power due to drone activity, with the Bahrain region being affected by an attack near one of its facilities.
The disruption comes after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) released a list of offices and infrastructure run by top US companies with Israeli links whose technology has been used for military applications. The listed offices and infrastructure include branches in multiple Israeli cities, as well as several Gulf countries.
US tech firms, including Amazon, have long worked to support the US military. AWS provides “a global infrastructure and secure, scalable, and mission-focused solutions that help the Department of Defense (DoD) meet mission”.
