Appeals Court Upholds Trumps Decision to Revoke Deportation Protections for Thousands

A US Appeals Court has upheld the Trump administration’s decision to revoke deportation protections for approximately 60,000 migrants from Nepal, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The court’s ruling backs a move by former Governor of South Dakota Kristi Noem to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for these countries.
The TPS program was established in 1990 to provide temporary protection to nationals of certain countries affected by armed conflict or natural disasters. In 2021, the Biden administration extended TPS protections for migrants from Nepal, Honduras, and Nicaragua due to ongoing conflicts and humanitarian concerns.
However, in 2022, the Trump administration announced plans to end these protections, citing a change in circumstances that no longer warranted their extension. The appeals court has now upheld this decision, allowing the Trump administration to continue revoking TPS for these countries.
The ruling affects approximately 60,000 migrants who were previously eligible for TPS and are now at risk of deportation if they fail to obtain alternative immigration status.
