Apple Announces Tim Cooks Succession Plan for Chief Executive Role

Apple CEO Tim Cook to Step Down on September 1

Tim Cook, who has led Apple since 2011, will transfer his duties as CEO to John Ternus, head of hardware engineering, on September 1. Cook will remain with the company as executive chairman.

Cook, 65, joined Apple in 1998 and became CEO in 2011. During his tenure, the company’s market value has increased by over $3.6 trillion, driven largely by the success of the iPhone and other innovative products. Under Cook’s leadership, Apple has expanded its product lines to include Apple Watch, AirPods, and Apple Vision Pro, as well as services such as iCloud, Apple Pay, and Apple Music.

The company announced the transition on Monday. Ternus, 50, a veteran of Apple, will take over as CEO. He previously served as senior vice president of hardware engineering, where he was instrumental in introducing new product lines, including iPad and AirPods, and multiple generations of iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch products.

Cook stated that he has been privileged to lead the company and expressed his confidence in Ternus’s ability to lead Apple into the future. Cook will continue to be involved with the company as executive chairman, assisting with certain aspects, including engaging with policymakers worldwide.
