Aryna Sabalenka claims Brisbane tennis title before Australian Open

Aryna Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back Brisbane International Title

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Marta Kostyuk in the Brisbane International final on Sunday, claiming her second consecutive title with a straight-sets victory of 6-4, 6-3. The match took place in front of a crowd at the Queensland Tennis Centre.

Sabalenka’s opponent, Kostyuk, had previously beaten top-10 players Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva, and Amanda Anisimova en route to the final. However, Sabalenka’s powerful strokes proved too much for her 26-year-old opponent.

The match began with Sabalenka taking an early lead of 3-0 in the first set. Kostyuk struggled to find her footing, but rallied at 3-3 and put pressure on Sabalenka. The Belarusian player regained control of the set and took it 6-4.

In the second set, Sabalenka continued her dominant performance, taking a 3-0 lead early on. Kostyuk faced significant challenges in holding her serve, ultimately losing to Sabalenka’s championship-winning point.

Kostyuk expressed her thoughts on the situation back home, stating that she plays every day with a pain in her heart due to the ongoing conflict and lack of basic necessities such as light and warm water. She also mentioned the extreme cold temperatures at home, where her sister is sleeping under three blankets.

Sabalenka will now focus on her upcoming Australian Open title bid, aiming for a third consecutive championship and fifth major title of the year. The tournament begins on January 18.
