At Least 29 Killed in Adamawa State Attack by Gunmen

Nigeria Attack Claimed by ISIL Group

At least 29 people have been killed in an attack on Guyaku village in Nigeria’s Adamawa State, according to officials. The attack, which lasted several hours, also left property damaged.

State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri visited the affected community and expressed his condolences, stating that the attack was “an affront to our humanity”. He announced that his administration would continue to support military and vigilante groups in intensifying security operations.

The ISIL group has claimed responsibility for the attack on its Telegram messaging app account. Two major ISIL-backed armed groups are operating in Nigeria, but it is unclear which one was behind the attack.

On the same day, an orphanage in north-central Nigeria was raided, resulting in the abduction of 23 children. Fifteen were later rescued, and efforts are underway to secure the safe return of the remaining eight victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

The Nigerian government has faced criticism from some US officials regarding its handling of violence against Christians, with accusations that authorities have failed to protect civilians from armed groups. However, the government has stated that people of all faiths have been killed in attacks by ISIL and al-Qaeda affiliated groups.

US forces launched air strikes on ISIL-affiliated fighters in December and deployed 100 soldiers to northern Nigeria in February to train and advise local forces.
