Lebanon Reports Multiple Casualties Following Israeli Strikes
At least eight people have been killed and over 25 wounded in eastern and southern Lebanon following a series of strikes by the Israeli military, according to reports from Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA). The NNA stated that the strikes occurred in the Bekaa Valley, with six fatalities reported.
The Israeli army claimed responsibility for striking “Hezbollah command centres” in the Baalbek area. A Hezbollah source confirmed that a military leader was among those killed. Earlier, Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health reported two fatalities from an Israeli attack on the Ein el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp.
The NNA also reported that an “Israeli drone” targeted the Hittin neighbourhood of the camp, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. The Israeli army stated that its forces struck a Hamas command centre in response to repeated ceasefire violations.
The strikes have caused significant damage to a building previously used for security purposes at the refugee camp. Israel has maintained regular strikes on Lebanon despite a 2024 ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah.
According to the United Nations, the Israeli military has launched over 10,000 air and ground attacks since agreeing to halt hostilities. The UN’s rights office reported at least 108 civilian casualties from Israeli attacks since the ceasefire, including women and children.
Lebanon filed a complaint with the UN last month regarding repeated Israeli violations, urging the UN Security Council to push Israel to end its attacks and withdraw from the country.
