Azerbaijan authorities have arrested three individuals suspected of planning an attack on an embassy in the capital, Baku. According to a statement released by the State Security Service, the suspects had allegedly conspired with members of the ISKP (Islamic State Khorasan Province) group.
The three men, born in 2000 and 2005, are reportedly being held on charges of “preparation for terrorism” related to religious hostility. An investigation into their activities is ongoing. The statement did not specify which embassy was targeted by the plot, but Israeli Channel 12 reported that the alleged target was the Israeli embassy.
The suspects were apprehended before they could carry out their planned attack. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar in Baku on Monday, where they discussed preparations for an upcoming Azerbaijani-Israeli business forum.
It is worth noting that ISKP has claimed responsibility for several attacks in Afghanistan and a 2024 attack on a concert venue in Moscow that resulted in the deaths of nearly 150 people. The investigation into the plot involving the three suspects is ongoing, but no further details have been released at this time.
