BAFTA Awards Ceremony Results Announced
The EE BAFTA Film Awards took place on Sunday evening, with One Battle After Another emerging as the top winner, claiming six awards including Best Film and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson. The film defeated Hamnet and Sinners to take home the top prizes.
One Battle After Another won awards for directing, adapted screenplay, cinematography, editing, and Sean Penn’s supporting performance in the film. Anderson accepted the directing prize, stating that it was “overwhelming and wonderful.” He referenced a line from Nina Simone’s song “I Know What Freedom Is,” which is featured in the film.
Sinners took home awards for original screenplay, best supporting actress for Wunmi Mosaku, and original score. Frankenstein won three awards, while Hamnet won two, including Best British Film. The documentary The Voice of Hind Rajab was a contender for Best Director and non-English language film categories, but Sentimental Value took home the non-English language award.
Robert Aramayo won the Best Actor category for his performance in I Swear, beating out other notable actors such as Timothee Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Jessie Buckley won Best Actress for her role in Hamnet. The best documentary prize went to Mr Nobody Against Putin, about a Russian teacher who documented propaganda imposed on Russian schools.
Prince William and Princess Kate were the guests of honour at the ceremony, hosted by Alan Cumming. The event marked the first joint engagement for the pair since Prince Andrew’s arrest earlier this week.
