Bangladesh Cricket Board Dissolved Amid Election Irregularities
The National Sports Council of Bangladesh has announced the dissolution of the country’s cricket board, citing “gross irregularities” in a recent election. The decision comes after an independent committee found significant irregularities during the 2025 BCB election, which was won by former national captain Aminul Islam Bulbul.
Bulbul had taken over as temporary president of the BCB in March 2025 and was subsequently elected unopposed for a four-year term. However, the National Sports Council has stated that a decision has been made to dissolve the BCB committee. An interim leadership headed by former captain Tamim Iqbal will take charge.
Tamim, who is 39 years old, becomes the youngest head of Bangladesh cricket. He played his last international match in September 2023 and scored over 15,000 runs for Bangladesh during his 15-year career. The National Sports Council has announced that an 11-member ad hoc committee led by Tamim will hold elections within three months.
The decision to dissolve the BCB board comes ahead of a goodwill visit by Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman to India. Cricket is a popular sport in both countries, but tensions have been high following Bangladesh’s refusal to participate in the 2024 World Cup in India due to security concerns. The country will host New Zealand for a tour starting on April 17.
The National Sports Council has stated that it will provide further information as necessary.
