Bangladesh Approves India Shooting Team Tour Days After T20 World Cup Ban

Bangladesh’s Shooting Team to Compete in New Delhi

The Bangladesh Ministry of Youth and Sports has approved the country’s shooting team to participate in the upcoming Asian Shooting Championships, set to take place in New Delhi from February 2 to 14. This decision comes after the cricket team was replaced by Scotland in the T20 World Cup due to safety concerns related to touring India.

According to reports, Bangladesh had initially refused to tour India for the tournament, citing security concerns following strained relations between the two nations. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) cited independent security assessment reports as reason for not allowing the team to play their matches in Sri Lanka, instead opting for a revised schedule.

Meanwhile, the shooting team consisting of Robiul Islam, Sharmin Akhter, and Saima Feroze has received approval from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to compete in New Delhi. The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) secretary-general Pawan Singh confirmed the participation of the Bangladesh contingent, stating that they had followed the necessary procedures and complied with international norms.

The shooting championships will be held at a venue in New Delhi, where the Bangladesh team is expected to participate alongside other national teams from across Asia. The NRAI has assured that the event will follow strict protocols, which the Bangladesh team is familiar with having participated in previous tournaments.
