Bangladesh Cricket Team Faces Off-Field Challenges Ahead of T20 World Cup

Bangladesh Test Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto Discusses Pressure Ahead of T20 World Cup

Bangladesh cricketers often face challenges in managing external pressures during major tournaments. In an interview, Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto spoke about the impact of controversies on his teammates as the T20 World Cup approaches.

Shanto mentioned that Bangladesh has not achieved success in previous World Cups, despite having opportunities to do so. He noted that incidents often occur before each tournament, which can affect players. However, he emphasized that cricketers strive to maintain a professional demeanor and focus on their performance.

Bangladesh is scheduled to play three T20 World Cup matches in Kolkata next month. The team’s participation in the tournament has been affected by tensions between India and Bangladesh, with protests near the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi following a recent incident involving a Hindu factory worker.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had reportedly informed Bangladesh that they must play their matches in India or forfeit them. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) denied receiving any ultimatum, stating that they are working with the ICC to find a mutually acceptable solution.

Shanto acknowledged that the situation is beyond his team’s control and urged players to maintain a professional attitude despite external pressures. The team will face significant challenges ahead of the T20 World Cup, which begins on February 7 and runs through March 8.
