Barcelona Acquire England Winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United

Barcelona Signs England Winger Anthony Gordon on Five-Year Contract

Barcelona has announced the signing of England winger Anthony Gordon on a five-year contract, according to the club’s statement released on Friday. The transfer comes after Gordon’s impressive performances for Newcastle United in all competitions this season.

Gordon, 25, has netted 17 goals for Newcastle in various games, including 10 in 12 Champions League matches. He will join Barcelona alongside his England teammate Marcus Rashford, who is currently on a season-long loan from Manchester United.

In a media conference, Gordon expressed his excitement about joining the club, stating that he had always dreamed of playing for Barcelona and learning Spanish to prepare for this moment. “I wanted to speak Spanish because when I was kid I believed I would play for Barca,” he said.

Gordon’s transfer comes after Newcastle United finished 12th in the Premier League and failed to qualify for European competition. The club had previously been linked with Gordon’s potential departure, but Barcelona swooped in to sign him.

Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed, but British media reported that Barcelona offered an initial 80 million euros plus add-ons for Gordon. The winger will now join a list of England internationals playing abroad, including Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham.

Gordon joins Barcelona as part of their summer recruitment efforts, which also include signing a striker. Spanish media reports that the club is interested in signing Argentina striker Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid.
