Lamine Yamal scored the decisive goal for Barcelona in a 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, moving his team four points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga standings. The match was played at San Mames Stadium, where Athletic had been attacking in waves throughout the game.

Barcelona’s Pedri Gonzalez provided Yamal with an opportunity to score when he released him inside the box from the right channel. Yamal then curled a left-footed shot into the top corner of the goal, securing the win for Barcelona.

The match marked a significant victory for Barcelona, who had lost in the Copa del Rey semifinals just four days prior. The team rested some of its regular starters ahead of their upcoming Champions League matchup against Newcastle on Tuesday.

Athletic Bilbao created several chances throughout the game but were unable to find the back of the net. Barcelona’s goalkeeper, Joan Garcia, made a string of fine saves to keep the visitors level and maintain his growing importance this season.

The win keeps Barcelona atop the La Liga standings with 67 points, while Athletic are ninth with 35 points.
