Barcelona Wins Spanish Super Cup with 3-2 Victory Over Real Madrid
In the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah, Barcelona secured their 16th Spanish Super Cup title by defeating Real Madrid 3-2 in the highly anticipated El Clasico match. The victory marked a second consecutive win for the Catalan side over their arch-rivals.
Raphinha scored twice for Barcelona, with Robert Lewandowski also finding the net to contribute to the team’s success. Frenkie de Jong was sent off late in the game, but it did not affect the outcome as Raphinha’s deflected effort sealed the win for Barcelona.
Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso began the match with French superstar Kylian Mbappe on the bench due to a knee injury sustained in the previous semifinal match. Despite this, Madrid pushed hard and pulled level through Vinicius Junior’s individual goal. Gonzalo Garcia then equalized just before halftime, sending the teams into the break level.
The second half was more subdued, with fewer scoring opportunities for either side. However, Raphinha’s seventh goal in his last five matches across all competitions proved decisive as it deflected into the net after 73 minutes. Barcelona midfielder De Jong received a red card late on, but it did not impact the result.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick made several tactical changes, including bringing Lamine Yamal back into the starting lineup and opting for Lewandowski up front instead of Ferran Torres. The team’s strategy paid off as they took an early lead through Raphinha before Madrid equalized. Barcelona regained the upper hand in stoppage time with a goal from Raphinha, securing their fourth trophy under Flick’s reign.
The match marked the 16th Spanish Super Cup title for Barcelona and the fourth consecutive win over Real Madrid under Flick’s leadership.
