Aryna Sabalenka Advances to Australian Open Semifinals with 6-3, 6-0 Win Over Iva Jovic
Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka continued her dominance in the Australian Open, defeating American teenager Iva Jovic 6-3, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. The win marked Sabalenka’s third consecutive appearance in the semifinals of the tournament.
Sabalenka will now face either Coco Gauff or Elina Svitolina in the semifinals on Saturday. In her previous round, she defeated Canadian Victoria Mboko, citing that Jovic had pushed her to a higher level of play despite the scoreline.
The match was played under hot conditions at Rod Laver Arena, with Sabalenka making a strong start to take the first set 6-3 in less than an hour. She then dominated the second set, breaking serve twice and converting break points to seal the win.
Jovic, who is just 18 years old and ranked 29th in the world, had been on a breakthrough run, defeating experienced players Jasmine Paolini and Yulia Putintseva in previous rounds. Sabalenka praised Jovic’s performance, saying that she was “incredible” and that it was a tough battle.
The match marked a significant milestone for Jovic, who is the youngest player to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. Despite her loss, Sabalenka expressed admiration for Jovic’s determination and resilience in the face of adversity.
Sabalenka will now focus on the semifinals, saying that she will not stop until she has won the trophy.
