Aryna Sabalenka Defeats Elena Rybakina at Indian Wells Tennis Tournament
Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka has won the Indian Wells tournament, defeating Elena Rybakina 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(6) in the final. This victory marks Sabalenka’s first title in the desert and her 23rd career win.
Sabalenka had previously lost to Rybakina at the Australian Open in January and also suffered defeats in two previous Indian Wells finals. However, she was able to overcome these setbacks and secure a thrilling comeback in the final.
The match saw both players experience highs and lows, with Rybakina dominating the first set before Sabalenka staged a remarkable recovery. The Belarusian player broke Rybakina’s serve twice in the second set to level at 1-1, and then took control of the match with four aces and nine unforced errors.
The third set was a closely contested affair, with both players trading points and neither able to gain a clear advantage until Sabalenka pulled ahead to seal the win. The victory marked a sweet redemption for Sabalenka, who had been seeking to overcome her previous losses to Rybakina.
In a post-match interview, Sabalenka congratulated Rybakina on her achievement and expressed her gratitude to her team and fiancé, Georgios Frangulis, who recently got engaged to her. The win marked an extraordinary week for Sabalenka, who had also recently gotten engaged and was celebrating with the birth of a new puppy.
