Former US President Bill Clinton Testifies Before House Oversight Committee
Bill Clinton has given closed-door testimony to the House of Representatives Oversight Committee about his relationship with late financier Jeffrey Epstein. The former president appeared before the committee on Friday, a day after his wife Hillary Clinton testified.
Clinton stated in a prepared statement that he “saw nothing” that gave him pause during his interactions with Epstein, who was convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor in 2008. Clinton also claimed that if he had known about Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking of underage girls, he would not have flown on his plane and would have reported him to the police.
The committee is investigating Epstein’s ties to the Clintons’ charitable foundation and has released photos of Clinton with women whose faces are redacted. The panel’s Republican chairman, Representative James Comer, plans to ask Clinton about these photos during the deposition.
Clinton testified near their home in Westchester County, New York. His wife Hillary had previously testified before the committee, which is being led by Republicans who claim they are not accusing the Clintons of wrongdoing. However, Democrats have accused the committee of conducting a partisan exercise and called for further subpoenas, including those targeting President Donald Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
Trump has expressed displeasure with Clinton’s deposition, stating that he “likes Bill Clinton” but does not like seeing him deposed. The Justice Department has acknowledged receiving documents related to Epstein’s activities and is reviewing them.
