Bomb blasts and gunfire reported in Pakistans northwest region

Multiple Attacks Rock Northwest Pakistan

At least three people have been killed in a series of incidents in northwest Pakistan. According to reports, two individuals were killed when explosives attached to a parked motorcycle detonated near a police station in Bannu district on Monday.

Later that day, an explosives-laden vehicle exploded while being driven towards a security checkpoint in the province’s Bajaur district. A girl was reportedly killed when a nearby building collapsed due to the force of the blast.

In addition, a gun battle between police and rebel fighters resulted in the deaths of at least eight members of the Pakistan Taliban group, known as TTP. The incident occurred during a search operation in Shangla district.

Separately, an AFP news agency report stated that eight people were killed when a suicide bomber drove a vehicle rigged with explosives into the wall of a religious college in Bajaur district. A security official confirmed that 10 others were injured and a child was killed due to the collapse of nearby houses.

The incidents are part of a surge in attacks against Pakistan’s security forces since 2021, coinciding with the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police reported three police personnel and rebel fighters killed during the search operation.
