Brazil seeks to avoid a new global conflict with other nations

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has stated his intention to discuss Brazil’s stance with US President Donald Trump during an upcoming visit. During a news conference in India on Sunday, Lula emphasized the importance of equal treatment for all countries. He expressed his desire to avoid a “new Cold War” and refrain from interference in other nations.

Lula declined to comment on Friday’s US Supreme Court decision, which overturned many tariffs imposed by Trump on goods entering the US. In response, Trump announced plans to replace the levies under a different law. Lula stated that he is confident his conversation with Trump will lead to a return to normal relations between the two countries.

Brazil has sought peaceful coexistence and economic growth, according to Lula. He expects to meet with Trump in early March, with discussions planned on trade, immigration, and investment. While there have been disagreements between the two leaders on various issues, recent developments suggest an improvement in US-Brazil ties. For example, Trump’s administration recently exempted key Brazilian exports from 40 percent tariffs imposed on the country.

During his visit to India, Lula met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss cooperation on critical minerals and rare earths. The two leaders agreed on a non-binding memorandum of understanding, which establishes a framework for cooperation in areas such as investment, exploration, mining, and education. They also discussed legal frameworks and other topics.
