Brazils President Lula to visit US for meeting with former US President Trump

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is scheduled to visit the White House, according to reports from media outlets O Globo and Reuters. The planned trip was first reported by O Globo on Monday, with subsequent confirmation from two anonymous Brazilian officials citing a meeting between Lula and US President Donald Trump in the coming days.

According to sources, Lula’s visit is expected to take place on Wednesday, followed by a meeting with Trump the following day. However, the White House has not yet confirmed these reports.

It was previously reported that tensions had eased between Lula and Trump after an initial period of hostility, during which the US imposed tariffs on Brazilian goods and pressured authorities to drop a case against former President Jair Bolsonaro over his involvement in a coup plot.

Despite ongoing differences over issues such as foreign policy, the two leaders have made efforts to improve their relationship. In January, Lula spoke by phone with Trump, stating that he would visit the US in the future. The two also briefly met in person at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Kuala Lumpur in October.

Details of the upcoming meeting between Lula and Trump remain unclear, as the White House has not yet issued an official statement confirming the trip.
