FIFA Announces Details of World Cup Final Half-Time Show
The FIFA World Cup final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will feature a unique half-time show, curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin. The event is expected to be a historic moment for the tournament, according to FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
According to FIFA, the half-time show will support the organization’s Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100m for children worldwide during the World Cup. The fund was announced last year by Infantino as part of an initiative to increase education and awareness about the importance of global citizenship.
The program details released on Thursday have raised concerns among fans about the length of the half-time show. However, no specific information has been provided on the duration or format of the event.
In a statement on Instagram, Infantino described the half-time show as “a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.” The move mirrors previous events held during other major football tournaments, including the 2024 Copa America and last year’s FIFA Club World Cup final.
The 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Shakira has been announced as one of the performers for the event, along with Colombian star and previous performer at the 2024 Copa America. The singer released a brief video teaser for her new official song, titled “Dai Dai,” which is set to be officially released on Thursday.
The half-time show will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where the World Cup final will also be held. In addition to the stadium event, FIFA plans to host an activation in Times Square, New York, during the final weekend of the tournament.
