Bulk Carrier Attacked Off Iran’s Coast, Crew Safe
A bulk carrier reported being attacked by multiple small craft off the coast of Iran near the Strait of Hormuz, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident occurred 11 nautical miles west of Sirik, Iran. UKMTO confirmed that all crew members on board the unidentified northbound vessel were safe.
No environmental impact has been reported as a result of the incident. The location is near the Strait of Hormuz, which has been at the center of recent tensions between Iran and other countries in the region.
The United States has imposed a counter-blockade on Iranian ports since April 13, with US forces redirecting 49 commercial vessels attempting to enter or exit Iranian ports as of Sunday. The UKMTO statement provided no further details on the incident or its cause.
Sirik is located on the Iranian side of the Strait of Hormuz, which has been a focal point for maritime activity in recent weeks.
