California, New Jersey, and Montana Hold Primaries on Tuesday

Primary Elections Underway in Six US States

Voters in six states are casting primary ballots on Tuesday, setting the stage for November’s midterm elections. The primary elections will determine which candidates advance to the general election and ultimately shape the political landscape.

In Iowa, Montana, New Mexico, New Jersey, South Dakota, and California, voters are participating in primary elections that will decide the nominees for at least 74 seats in the US House of Representatives. The outcome of these primaries could impact control over Congress, as Democrats aim to win majorities in both chambers.

The Senate is also up for grabs, with all seats currently held by Republicans facing challenges from Democratic candidates. In Iowa, two main Democratic contenders are vying for the open seat left by retiring Senator Joni Ernst: State Representative Josh Turek and State Senator Zach Wahls. The Republican Party’s nominee is expected to be US Representative Ashley Hinson.

In New Jersey, 12 seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs, with incumbent Tom Kean Jr. facing a challenge from Democratic candidate Rebecca Bennett. Kean has been criticized for missing numerous votes and failing to attend public events in his district, making his seat vulnerable to a Democratic takeover.

The primary elections will also determine which candidates advance to November’s general election. The outcome of these elections could have significant implications for the remainder of President Donald Trump’s second term.
