Calls for Independent Probe in Deadly Iranian Girls School Attack

UN Experts Condemn School Attack in Minab, Iran

A bombing at a primary school in Minab, southern Iran, killed 165 pupils aged seven to 12 on Saturday. The attack occurred during class hours, prompting concerns under international law.

In a statement released on Friday, a group of UN experts emphasized the need for an independent investigation into the incident. They stated that the attack “raises serious concerns” and urged accountability for any violations.

The UN human rights chief, Volker Turk, also expressed his hope for prompt and transparent investigations, with a focus on ensuring accountability for any mistakes made during the conflict.

Rights advocates have pointed to the Minab school attack as evidence of potential war crimes committed by Israel and the US in the ongoing conflict. The group DAWN has urged Iran to give the International Criminal Court jurisdiction over crimes committed on its territory since the war began.

Iran’s UN envoy, Amir Saeid Iravani, reported that the school was “deliberately destroyed” in US-Israeli attacks against the country, resulting in the deaths of 165 innocent schoolgirls. Investigations suggest that US forces were responsible for the attack, with satellite imagery and verified videos supporting this claim.

The White House Press Secretary stated that Washington is investigating the incident, while emphasizing that the Department of War does not target civilians.
