Canadas T20 World Cup match faces ICC investigation over alleged corruption allegations

Canada’s T20 World Cup Match Under Investigation by ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is conducting an investigation into allegations of match corruption involving Canada’s cricket team. The allegations surfaced in a documentary aired by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), which has raised concerns about governance and integrity within the country’s cricket set-up.

According to reports, the ICC’s anti-corruption unit is aware of the CBC documentary and is reviewing the claims made against Cricket Canada. The investigation centers on a recent T20 World Cup match between Canada and New Zealand in Chennai, India. Suspicion has been raised about a specific over bowled by captain Dilpreet Bajwa during New Zealand’s chase.

The over in question saw Bajwa start with a no-ball, followed by a wide delivery, before conceding 15 runs. The incident occurred during Canada’s match against New Zealand, which ended with the Canadian team scoring 173 for four wickets in 20 overs and losing to New Zealand by eight wickets.

The ICC is also investigating a phone call between then-Canada coach Khurram Chohan and senior Cricket Canada board members, where Chohan claims that he was pressured into selecting certain players. The organization has stated that it takes allegations of match-fixing and organized crime extremely seriously and will review them responsibly.

Cricket Canada has confirmed that the matter is being treated with utmost importance and has committed to reviewing the allegations and taking necessary steps as needed.
