Chelsea appoints new manager following Enzo Marescas departure after 18 months

Chelsea Parts Ways with Manager Enzo Maresca

Chelsea Football Club has announced that it has parted ways with manager Enzo Maresca, effective immediately. The decision comes after a tumultuous period for the team, which has seen them win just one Premier League game in December.

Maresca joined Chelsea in 2024 and was tasked with reviving the club’s fortunes after two years of failing to qualify for the Champions League. He led the team to a fourth-placed finish in his first season, as well as the Conference League trophy and the Club World Cup title.

However, Maresca’s tenure has been marked by a decline in form, including a poor run of games in December. The Italian manager had previously expressed frustration with issues behind the scenes, stating that he felt he lacked support from the club.

The club has stated that it believes a change in management will give the team the best chance of getting the season back on track. Maresca’s departure marks a significant turning point for Chelsea, which is currently fifth in the league and 15 points behind leaders Arsenal at the halfway stage of the season.

Maresca’s contract with Chelsea was set to expire in 2029, but he had previously denied interest in leaving the club. The decision to part ways with Maresca comes after a series of disappointing results, including a 2-0 loss to Everton and a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday.

The club has not yet announced who will take over as manager for Sunday’s match against Manchester City.
