Chelsea Appoints Xabi Alonso as New Manager on Four-Year Contract

Former Real Madrid Coach Appointed as Chelsea Manager

Xabi Alonso has been appointed as the new manager of Chelsea FC, effective July 1, following a four-year contract. The announcement was made by the club on Sunday.

Alonso, who previously managed Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, will become the fifth permanent appointment under BlueCo ownership. He expressed his pride in being appointed to manage one of the biggest clubs in world football.

As a player, Alonso had 210 appearances for Liverpool before joining Real Madrid in 2009 and later playing for Bayern Munich until 2017. In his statement, Alonso stated that he shared the same ambition with the ownership group and sporting leadership, aiming to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies.

Chelsea FC has had a difficult season, currently sitting ninth in the Premier League and facing a long-shot battle to qualify for European competition after losing the FA Cup final to Manchester City on Saturday. The club’s statement read: “Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Xabi Alonso as manager of the men’s team.”
