Chelsea Appoints New Head Coach After Five-Game Losing Streak
Chelsea, the FIFA Club World Cup champions, have parted ways with head coach Liam Rosenior following a five-game losing streak. The 41-year-old had been in charge since January, replacing Enzo Maresca as the permanent manager of the west London club.
Rosenior’s managerial career began at Derby County and Hull City in England before joining Strasbourg in France for two years. During his time with Strasbourg, he achieved a winning record of 51 out of 63 matches. However, during his tenure at Chelsea, Rosenior secured only 11 wins in 23 games.
The recent losing streak has seen Chelsea drop to seventh in the league, putting their chances of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League in jeopardy. The club released a statement saying that Rosenior had conducted himself with “the highest integrity and professionalism” since his appointment, but acknowledged that recent results had fallen below expected standards.
In his final game in charge, Rosenior described the performance of his players as “indefensible” and “unacceptable”. Chelsea has not commented on the reasons behind Rosenior’s departure.
