Congress Must Approve Any US Troop Deployment to Iran

US President Donald Trump’s administration has reportedly prepared for potential limited ground operations in Iran, including raids on Kharg Island and sites near the Strait of Hormuz. According to a statement by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, the Pentagon regularly reviews various options for the president to consider.
Congressional Representative Nancy Mace expressed concerns over the administration’s plans during a classified briefing, stating that Congress should be briefed before any decisions are made regarding troop deployment. She also emphasized that deploying troops on the ground would be a significant issue for her and potentially others in her party.
Trump has not publicly supported deploying US troops to Iran, but has maintained that all options remain on the table. Military analysts have noted that while Iran’s military capabilities have been diminished, the country still maintains the ability to inflict damage on the region and potentially rebuild.
The Pentagon is reportedly preparing for a range of scenarios, including limited ground operations. The US has increased its military presence in the region, with approximately 3,500 additional soldiers arriving in the Middle East on board the USS Tripoli.
Some Republican lawmakers have expressed concerns about deploying troops to Iran, citing potential economic and security implications. Former member of Congress Matt Gaetz stated that a ground invasion would make the country “poorer and less safe.” Representatives Eli Crane and Derrick Van Orden also mentioned that their support for the war could shift if Trump deployed troops.
The administration has not publicly confirmed any plans for deploying troops to Iran, but is reportedly considering various options.
