Cricket Captain Stokes Survives Facial Injury After Incident

England Test Captain Ben Stokes Undergoes Surgery After Facial Injury

Ben Stokes, the captain of England’s cricket team, has undergone surgery after being struck on the face by a cricket ball during a net session while coaching academy players for his domestic county side Durham in February.

Stokes required surgical intervention to repair a broken cheekbone sustained from the incident. He expressed gratitude for being alive and acknowledged that he had “quite lucky” to have avoided more severe consequences.

The injury has set back Stokes’ return to playing, with him expected to miss around five weeks of training before returning to action in two first-class County Championship games next month. Despite this setback, Stokes is confident in his team’s ability to recover and perform well in the upcoming Test series against New Zealand, starting on June 4.

Stokes also addressed reports of disagreements between himself and head coach Brendon McCullum, stating that they have different viewpoints at times but work together towards a common goal. The duo has implemented an ultra-aggressive playing style known as “Bazball” since taking charge in 2022, which has been subject to scrutiny following England’s Ashes defeat.

Stokes emphasized the importance of collaboration and open communication between himself and McCullum, stating that they have a strong alignment towards winning and making the team the best it can be. The coach was retained despite criticism, and Stokes expressed his confidence in their ability to work together and achieve success.
