Cricket star Jones suspended due to multiple corruption allegations

US Cricketer Aaron Jones Charged with ICC Anticorruption Code Breaches

Aaron Jones, a key player for the US team at the 2024 T20 World Cup, has been provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following charges of breaching its anticorruption code. The 31-year-old cricketer faces five charges related to his participation in the 2023-2024 Bim10 tournament in Barbados and two international cricket-related charges.

Jones has 14 days to respond to the charges, which include allegations of fixing or attempting to fix matches at Bim10; refusing or failing to cooperate with an investigation; obstructing the inquiry; and failing to disclose attempts to violate the Cricket West Indies anticorruption code. The ICC stated that these charges are part of a wider investigation, which may result in further charges against other participants.

Jones was part of the US squad training in Sri Lanka ahead of the T20 World Cup, scheduled for February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka. The US team has yet to announce its final squad for the tournament, and Jones is now ineligible for selection.

Jones had a notable performance at the 2024 T20 World Cup, including scoring 11 runs in the super-over victory against Pakistan and hitting an unbeaten 94 in a seven-wicket win against Canada. Born in New York, Jones made his international debut in 2018 while playing for Barbados before switching to represent his country of birth.

The ICC has not commented further on the matter outside of its initial statement.
