Croatian soccer star Luka Modric Undergoes Facial Surgery Ahead of World Cup

AC Milan Midfielder Luka Modric Undergoes Successful Surgery After Facial Fracture

Luka Modric, the AC Milan midfielder, suffered a facial fracture during Sunday’s 0-0 Serie A draw against Juventus. The injury occurred when Modric collided with Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli, causing a fracture to his left cheekbone.

Modric underwent surgery on Monday, which was deemed successful by medical professionals. The Croatian Football Federation confirmed that national medical staff are in contact with Modric and Milan to monitor his recovery.

The club has not provided an exact timeline for Modric’s return to action, but the midfielder is expected to be fit for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalic expressed confidence in Modric’s ability to recover and lead the team at the tournament.

Modric is currently third in the Serie A standings, 12 points behind leaders Inter Milan with four games remaining. However, his participation in the season run-in is uncertain due to the injury. The World Cup is scheduled to begin on June 11, and Croatia will face England on June 17, Ghana on June 23, and Panama on June 27.

Modric’s contract with Milan expires at the end of the season, but he has an option to extend his deal for another year. A protective mask may be necessary if Modric recovers in time for the World Cup.
