Former International Cricketer David Warner Charged with Drink-Driving
A 39-year-old former international cricketer has been charged with mid-range drink-driving after being pulled over by police in Sydney on Sunday. According to reports, the individual was driving a van that stopped short of a random testing site and was subsequently breath-tested by officers.
The driver, who is also an active participant in Twenty20 franchise cricket, returned a positive result for alcohol. He was arrested and taken to a local police station, where he was formally charged with drink-driving.
Warner, who retired from international cricket in 2024 after accumulating 8,786 runs across his 112 Tests, is due to appear in court on May 7. The incident occurred during the weekend, when Warner was reportedly driving for a franchise in the Pakistan Super League.
The individual’s involvement with various franchises, including Karachi Kings and Delhi Capitals, has been confirmed by reports. He made his international debut in January 2009 and played his last Test match in January 2024 against Pakistan.
Warner is also an active participant in other forms of cricket, including T20 and one-day internationals for Australia. The charges against him have been outlined by police, who will present the case against him at court on May 7.
