US Law Enforcement Responds to Reports of Gunfire Near White House
Reports of gunfire have been made near the White House, prompting a response from US law enforcement agencies. According to an unnamed law enforcement official, more than 30 shots were heard coming from the North Lawn area.
A suspect is reported to be in custody and has been transported to George Washington Hospital. The condition of the suspect is currently unknown. An unidentified law enforcement official confirmed that two individuals, including a bystander, have been shot and are in critical condition.
The Secret Service was involved in the incident, with an agent reportedly being stationed near the intersection of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Multiple emergency vehicles and agencies have cordoned off access to the White House, while National Guard troops have blocked reporters from entering the area.
President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time of the incident. The White House has not confirmed or commented on the president’s condition. Journalists who were present on the North Lawn reported being ordered to seek shelter in the press briefing room.
The FBI is also involved, with Director Kash Patel stating that officers are responding to shots being fired and will provide updates as necessary. This incident follows a previous attempted assassination of the president at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on April 25.
