Egypt Advances to Africa Cup of Nations Semifinals with Thrilling Win Over Ivory Coast
In a high-scoring match, Egypt edged out defending champions Ivory Coast 3-2 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Agadir on Saturday. The victory sets up a semifinal meeting with Senegal in Tangier on Wednesday.
The match saw several key moments, including Omar Marmoush’s goal in the fourth minute and Ramy Rabia’s header in the 32nd minute, which gave Egypt an early lead. Ivory Coast responded with goals from Ahmed Abou El Fotouh and Guela Doue, but Egypt maintained their advantage.
In the second half, Mohamed Salah scored his fourth goal of the tournament, securing a two-goal cushion for Egypt. Despite Ivory Coast’s late pressure, Egypt held on to win the match.
The result marks Egypt’s elimination of Ivory Coast from the tournament, while also advancing them to the semifinals. The Pharaohs are now set to face Senegal in their next match.
Meanwhile, Nigeria secured a 2-0 victory over Algeria earlier in the day, setting up a semifinal meeting with Morocco.
