At least eight people, including two children, have been killed in three Israeli drone strikes that hit cars on a major highway in Jiyeh, Lebanon, according to the Ministry of Health. The attacks occurred on Wednesday and left several vehicles severely damaged.
A photograph taken by the National News Agency shows the extent of the damage, with charred and torn exteriors. Zeina Khodr, reporting from Tyre, stated that “the conflict is escalating” and that civilians are suffering due to the ongoing violence.
Lebanon and Israel are set to hold a new round of direct negotiations in Washington on Thursday, brokered by the United States. Hezbollah has expressed opposition to these talks.
In recent days, the Israeli military has issued forced displacement orders for residents of six southern Lebanese villages, warning that they will be acted against “forcefully” if they remain. The orders have been part of a pattern of daily displacements in the past week.
According to Al Jazeera’s reporting, one of the few remaining hospitals in the area is located within the displacement zone, posing a challenge for injured individuals who need medical attention. The Ministry of Public Health reported that at least 380 people have been killed during the truce, bringing the total death toll since the Israeli invasion and bombardment began on March 2 to over 2,800.
The ministry also stated that 108 emergency medical services and healthcare workers had been killed in Lebanon during the war. Al Jazeera’s reporting indicates a growing humanitarian crisis, with over a million people displaced.
