US President Donald Trump to Meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping for Seventh Time
Washington D.C. - US President Donald Trump is set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping for the seventh time since 2017. This will be Trump’s first visit to China as a US leader, marking a significant development in bilateral relations.
The two leaders have met six times prior to this visit, starting with a private meeting at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort on April 6, 2017. Their initial meeting was notable for Trump’s criticism of China’s trade practices and his decision to accept a congratulatory phone call from then-Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.
In their subsequent meetings, the two leaders have discussed various issues, including North Korea’s nuclear program, economic ties, and trade relations. The 2017 G20 summit meeting saw Trump and Xi focus on these topics, as well as the US-China trade war.
The 2018 G20 summit dinner between Trump and Xi was notable for the White House describing it as “highly successful,” despite tensions surrounding tariffs imposed by both countries. In 2019, the two leaders agreed to de-escalate their rivalry through measures such as halting new tariffs and easing restrictions on Huawei.
The 2025 APEC summit meeting marked Trump’s first face-to-face encounter with Xi in six years. The visit is expected to focus on several key issues, including the US-Israel war on Iran, trade, and the status of Taiwan.
Details of the upcoming summit are not yet available, but it is clear that this meeting will be a significant development in the complex relationship between the two nations.
