Ex-Iran foreign minister Kharazi injured in attack at his home

Former Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi Seriously Wounded in Apparent Assassination Attempt

A former Iranian foreign minister has been seriously wounded in an apparent assassination attempt at his home in Tehran. The incident occurred on Wednesday, and Kharazi’s wife was killed. According to reports from Iranian media outlets Shargh, Etemad, and Ham Mihan, the air strike targeted Kharazi’s residence.

Kharazi is currently hospitalized with serious injuries. Al Jazeera’s Mohamed Vall reported that the exact motives for the attempted assassination are unclear. However, Vall stated that Kharazi was known to be a prominent figure in Iranian politics, having served as head of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations and former adviser to the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The spokesperson for the armed forces’ unified command has pledged to continue military operations against the US and Israel until they face “permanent regret and surrender”. Ebrahim Zolfaghari stated that US and Israeli assessments of Iran’s military capabilities are “incomplete” and that Tehran will increase its military actions, including more destructive attacks.

The situation in Iran remains tense, with air strikes reported across the country. The US and Israeli military have been conducting joint operations against Iranian targets since February 28, resulting in over 1,340 civilian casualties. Israel has also issued warnings of incoming rocket fire, advising the public to take shelter.

In recent weeks, Kharazi had stated that Iran was open to possible indirect talks with the US, despite expressing concerns about US President Donald Trump’s intentions. However, the exact motives behind the attempted assassination remain unclear.
