Extra security measures to be implemented at Iran World Cup games

Federal Agents to Be Present at World Cup, Immigration Enforcement Not Expected

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna has confirmed that federal agents will be present during the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles, but immigration enforcement is not expected to take place. According to Luna, officials from the US Department of Homeland Security have informed him that there will be a significant law enforcement presence at the tournament, including federal agents, to ensure security.

However, Luna stated that civil immigration enforcement will not occur during the games or events in Los Angeles. He attributed this decision to concerns raised by a union representing stadium workers, who had threatened to go on strike over potential ICE deployments.

The World Cup will feature eight matches in Los Angeles, including the opening game between the US and Paraguay at SoFi Stadium. The venue has also been identified as a high-risk location due to heightened tensions between the US and Iran, with the Iranian team scheduled to play two group-stage games in LA.

To address these concerns, law enforcement officials have announced plans to increase staffing around Iran’s matches, monitor potential protests or other activity near the stadium and fan zones, and implement strict drone enforcement measures. Temporary flight restrictions will be enforced around World Cup venues, and violators of these restrictions may face consequences.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman has warned that the security effort will bring a large law enforcement presence to the region, making it an unfavorable time for potential crimes. The district attorney’s office will prosecute any crimes committed during this period, and those found guilty will be punished accordingly.
