FBI Conducts Search at Fulton County Election Office in Georgia
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has executed a search warrant at a Fulton County election office in Georgia, according to an agency spokesperson. The search is related to concerns surrounding the 2020 United States presidential election.
Agents were seen entering the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center, which is located in Union City, just south of Atlanta. The FBI spokesperson declined to provide further information due to an ongoing matter.
The investigation is linked to the 2020 presidential contest between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden. Trump lost the election, but has maintained that it was stolen from him.
FBI agents have been pursuing various cases related to Trump’s claims of election interference. The Justice Department had no immediate comment on the search.
Representatives for Fulton County’s election office referred queries to the county’s external affairs office, which did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment. The county voted overwhelmingly for Biden in the 2020 election, helping him win the state and the presidency.
Trump has previously sought to overturn the result, pressuring the state’s top election official to find additional votes for him. In August 2023, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis obtained an indictment against Trump and 18 others, accusing them of participating in a scheme to try to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. The case was later dismissed due to concerns about an “appearance of impropriety” related to Willis’s personal relationship with one of her appointed prosecutors.
