The US Department of Justice has dropped its criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. The decision was made in response to a request from Senator Rand Paul.

Additionally, Senator Jeanine Pirro had also initiated an investigation into Powell, but it has now been dropped as well.

Bloomberg.com reported that the investigation into Powell’s involvement in the renovation of the Fed’s headquarters is no longer active.

CNBC stated that while the probe has been dropped, concerns about the Fed’s independence remain.

Politico confirmed that the Department of Justice had indeed dropped its probe into Powell and the renovations at the Federal Reserve.
