FIFA President Gianni Infantino Receives Endorsement from Confederation of African Football for 2027 Re-Election Bid
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s bid for re-election in 2027. In a statement released following a meeting prior to the upcoming FIFA Congress in Vancouver, CAF confirmed that it had “unanimously agreed” to endorse Infantino.
Infantino took office as FIFA president in 2016, succeeding Sepp Blatter who stepped down amid corruption allegations. Since then, Infantino has been re-elected twice, most recently in 2023. Despite FIFA’s statutes limiting presidents to three terms, Infantino is eligible for re-election next year due to a ruling that his initial term from 2016 to 2019 should not be counted towards the total.
CAF’s decision to support Infantino follows similar backing from CONMEBOL, South America’s governing football body. The move solidifies Infantino’s position as a strong contender in the upcoming re-election bid.
