Fireworks Factory Explosion in China Kills 27 People

Breaking News: Explosion at Chinese Fireworks Factory Claims Lives

A devastating explosion occurred on Monday at a fireworks factory in Liuyang, China’s central Hunan province, resulting in significant loss of life and injury. The incident took place at the Huasheng fireworks plant, which is reportedly one of the largest producers of fireworks exports in the country.

According to reports, at least 26 people have been confirmed dead, while 61 others are injured. The local government has dispatched emergency personnel to the scene, with a total of 482 responders involved. Neighboring areas were also evacuated due to concerns about potential further explosions at the factory’s warehouses.

President Xi Jinping has ordered an investigation into the incident, stating that those responsible must be held accountable. Premier Li Qiang has also called for a thorough evaluation of workplace safety measures in light of the accident.

The full extent of the damage is still unknown as rescue efforts continue into Tuesday. A video shared on social media shows widespread destruction and damage to buildings across multiple city blocks. Authorities have reportedly taken measures against the person in charge of the company, although it is unclear if this individual has been formally arrested.

Liuyang is a significant hub for fireworks production, accounting for 70 percent of China’s exports and 60 percent of its domestic market. The last major accident at a fireworks factory in Liuyang occurred in 2019, resulting in 13 fatalities and 17 injuries.
