Russian Missile Attacks Hit Ukraine, Rare Drone Strike Hits Moscow
A series of missile attacks targeted the cities of Kharkiv and Kherson in Ukraine on Monday, resulting in at least eight fatalities. In a rare incident, drones also struck Moscow, causing damage to residential buildings.
According to officials, a Russian strike on the town of Merefa in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region killed six people and wounded over 30 others. The attack targeted civilian infrastructure, including houses and shops, with two men and three women reportedly killed immediately. A fourth man died from his injuries at a hospital.
In the Kherson region, two men were killed during various attacks, according to the regional prosecutor’s office. Russia has not commented on the strike in Kharkiv.
Meanwhile, Ukraine launched an overnight drone strike on Moscow, targeting a residential high-rise building in an upscale neighborhood. The attack occurred on Mosfilmovskaya Street, approximately 10km southwest of the Kremlin. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported no casualties from the attack, which was followed by two other drones that were repelled by air defense systems.
The rare drone strike on Moscow comes ahead of Russia’s annual Victory Day parade, scheduled to take place without military hardware due to heightened threats from Ukrainian strikes.
