Five people killed in Russian missile strike on eastern Ukrainian city

Russian Forces Launch Missile Attacks in Ukraine, Hit Moscow with Drone Strike

A series of missile attacks occurred in Ukraine, resulting in at least eight fatalities. In the Kharkiv region, a Russian strike on Monday killed six people and wounded over 30 others in the town of Merefa. The attack targeted civilian infrastructure, including 10 houses and four shops.

Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that two men and three women were killed immediately, while another man died from his injuries at a hospital. Russian forces used an Iskander-type ballistic missile for the attack.

In the Kherson region, two men were killed during attacks on Monday. Ukraine has not commented on the strike in Kharkiv.

Meanwhile, Moscow was targeted by a drone strike overnight, which hit a residential high-rise in an upscale neighborhood. The mayor’s office reported no casualties from the attack on Mosfilmovskaya Street. Two other drones were intercepted by air defense systems before reaching their targets.

The unusual attacks on Moscow come ahead of Russia’s annual Victory Day parade, scheduled for five days later. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a statement about the potential threat posed by drone strikes during the event.

In recent weeks, Ukraine has increased its strikes on Russian oil refineries, ports, and depots. The frequency of drone attacks on Moscow is rare due to the city’s robust air defense systems.
